Lorien raising money for UNHCR – Tokyo Marathon

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

We are now witnessing the highest levels of displacement on record.

An unprecedented 68.5 million people around the world have been forced from home. Among them are nearly 25.4 million refugees, over half of whom are under the age of 18.

There are also an estimated 10 million stateless people who have been denied a nationality and access to basic rights such as education, healthcare, employment and freedom of movement.

As of 30 November 2018, the UNHCR employ 16,765 people, of whom around nearly 90 per cent are based in the field.

Working in 138 countries, with personnel based in a mixture of regional and branch offices and sub and field offices. The teams work hard to help the displaced, specializing in a wide range of disciplines, including legal protection, administration, community services, public affairs and health.

All of these figures and stories of hardship are hard to comprehend, especially for us here in Australia.

I am fully aware of how lucky I am to have been born in such a wonderful and peaceful country. I can’t even start to imagine what it would be like to have no choice but to leave your home.

I am running the Tokyo Marathon to raise funds for the vital work of this organisation. Any contribution to help in this goal would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
